Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Education

For students attending classes at Arizona Western College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the assistant dean for the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 18 units of theatre arts courses for this major must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona.

THEATRE ARTS--15 units

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

• ENG 101, 102

MATHEMATICS--3 units

• MAT 151

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

• MAT 172, 187, 212, 221

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

• BDC 100, 120, 140
• SPE 215

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6-9 units

• Option 1 -- HIS 101, 102, 103
• Option 2 -- any combination ARH 241, 242; MUS 120; PHI 101, 105

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

• Astronomy -- AST - any course
• Biology -- BIO - any course
• Chemistry -- CHM - any course

• Geology -- GLG - any course

ARTS--3-6 units (other than theatre arts); only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION--15 units
Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) of higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
3. Completion of the theater arts core curriculum.
4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
   or
2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 110 and POS 221) on the United States and Arizona constitutions.
