Bachelor of Music with a
major in Music Education
Voice or Instrumental
For students attending classes at Central Arizona College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are required. All transfer music majors (except piano and organ performance majors) must audition for placement in class or group piano instruction. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the assistant director of the School of Music (621-1454) for additional information.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the music courses listed below, students should complete eight units of individual instruction in their major instrument or voice and four units of a conducted ensemble. Instrumental music education majors should also complete one unit of course work in a coached ensemble.
MUSIC--29 units
- MHL 203 and 204; MHL 207 - for use as elective credit
- MTC 101 and 102
- MTC 201 and 202
- MUP 103*, 110, 200
* This course is required only for majors in instrumental music education.

MATHEMATICS--3 units
- MAT 150, 151, 152
College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units
- SPE 100, 201
- THE 101, 102
GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill
requirements in more than one study area.
WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units from one of the options
- Option 1 -- HIS 103, 104
- Option 2 -- ART 207, 208; THE 105, 106
SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)
- Biology -- BIO - any course
- Chemistry -- CHM - any course
- Geology -- GLG - any course
- Physics -- PHY - any course
- Science -- SCI - 100, 101
INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units
- History -- HIS 101 or 102
- Psychology -- PSY 101
Select an additional three units of course work from the following:
- Anthropology -- ASB 102; ARH 200, 201, 202, 210

ARTS--3-6 units
- Students should complete this requirement after transfer to The University of Arizona by taking Music 330a and 330b.
