1996-97 UA CAC transfer guide

Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts

For students attending classes at Central Arizona College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the Department of Media Arts (621-7352) for additional information.

All students, including transfer students, are required to have Advanced Standing for enrollment in all 300-400 level Department of Media Arts courses. Requirements for students to be admitted to Advanced Standing in M AR at The University of Arizona are:

  1. Completion of at least 56 credits.
  2. A minimum overall GPA of 2.50 based on completion of at least 12 units at The University of Arizona.
  3. Completion of MAR core courses [200, 201a, 201b, 202 and 210].
  4. Completion of selected general education requirements to include: ENGL 101 or 103h, ENGL 102 or 104h, MATH 117 or higher, four units of second language, three units of traditions and cultures, four units of science with lab and three units of individuals, societies and institutions. Where applicable, general education courses are to be Booklink-approved.

Transfer students who would otherwise qualify for Media Arts Advanced Standing except that they do not meet the requirement of having taken a minimum of 12 regularly graded units at The University of Arizona will be given provisional permission to enroll in upper-division media arts courses until they have completed this minimum. Thereafter, they must meet all of the regular provisions of the media arts Advanced Standing policy.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

The following CAC courses transfer as M AR Departmental Elective Credit: MSC 103, MSC 105, MSC 106, MSC 107. Six units of these classes may be applied to the major.

Of the minimum of 35 credits required for the major, at least 18 must be in residence at The University of Arizona and at least 18 units must be upper-division [300-400].

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

SECOND LANGUAGE--16 units
This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to
Credit by Examination in The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Central Arizona College includes the following:

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
One of the study area courses (identified with an * [asterisk] preceding the course number) must focus on gender, class, race or ethnicity.

TRADITIONS AND CULTURES--9 units from List 1 and List 2

LIST 1 (Non-Western Traditions and Cultures) - complete one course from the following options:

LIST 2 (Western Traditions and Cultures) - complete a two-course sequence from the following options:

BIOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES--8 units
This requirement is to be satisfied by completing courses which include laboratory work. Students are strongly encouraged to take either courses in the biological sciences or courses in the physical sciences when completing this requirement.

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units from at least two areas

ARTS--3 units

LITERATURE--3 units
