Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at Cochise College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the assistant dean for the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 18 units of theatre arts courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for this major.

THEATRE ARTS--12 units

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
One course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--6 units

Select three units of course work from the following options:

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

ARTS--6 units (other than theatre arts). Only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

  1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

  1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on United States and Arizona constitutions;
    or
  2. Satisfactorily complete course work POS 220 or POS 110 and POS 221 on the United States and Arizona constitutions.
