Bachelor of Arts in Education with a major in Elementary Education
For students attending classes at Coconino College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the Office of Student and Career Services in the College of Education (Education Bldg., Rm. 247) for additional information (621-7865). Elementary education majors must choose a subject matter concentration in consultation with an academic advisor in the College of Education.
Formal admission to the College of Education is required of all undergraduate students who wish to pursue a major or earn a teaching certificate in the College of Education. Admission to the College of Education is limited. The deadlines for admission are the second Friday in September for any Spring term and the second Friday in February for any Fall term. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Credit by Examination in The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Coconino College includes the following:

Note: If students select French, Sign Language or Navajo, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:
- Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
or- Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 221 and POS 222 or POS 220) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. POS 221 and POS 222 or POS 220 will satisfy, for the College of Education only, three units toward the category individuals, societies and institutions.
