Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Resources with a major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. The School of Family and Consumer Resources offers undergraduate majors in family studies, family and consumer sciences education and retailing and consumer studies. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the School of Family and Consumer Resources (621-1075) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

The following courses are available in the Maricopa District for application to the major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education:

COMPUTER SKILLS--3 units

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
Select course work from five of the six study areas listed below. When courses are identified under a study area as required by one of the majors, students must complete that study area as one of the five areas. A minimum of 32 units is required in the five study areas selected.

1. WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units

* These courses are required for the major in Family & Consumer Sciences Education.

2. BIOLOGICAL AND LIFE SCIENCES--8 units, one lab required

* This course is required for the major in Family & Consumer Sciences Education.

3. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES--8 units

* These courses are required for the major in Family & Consumer Sciences Education.

4. INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--6-9 units

* These courses are required for the major in Family & Consumer Sciences Education.

5. NON-WESTERN CIVILIZATIONS--3 units

6. ARTS, LITERATURE AND LANGUAGE--6 units
