Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Secondary Education
For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the Office of Student and Career Services in the College of Education (Education Bldg., Rm. 247) for additional information (621-7865).
Students interested in teaching at the secondary school level will select a subject area teaching major. The B.S. degree is granted to mathematics and science majors. The B.A. degree is granted to other approved teaching majors.
Formal admission to the College of Education is required of all undergraduate students who wish to pursue a major or earn a teaching certificate in the College of Education. Admission to the College of Education is limited. The deadlines for admission are the second Friday in September for any Spring term and the second Friday in February for any Fall term. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

The mathematics course chosen will depend on the teaching major and minor. Contact the College of Education for further information. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted.

SECOND LANGUAGE--16 units
The requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Credit by Examination in The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at the Maricopa County Community Colleges includes the following. For Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese or Sign Language sequences, a placement test may be required to appropriately place students or to satisfy fourth semester proficiency.
