Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Art Education

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the assistant dean in the Faculty of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 12 units of art courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for this major.

ART--63 units

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units

Select three units of course work from the following options:

* Students in the Maricopa District may take POS 220 or POS 221 and 222 to complete this requirement.

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

ARTS--6 units
Complete this requirement through upper-division art history course work after transfer to The University of Arizona.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Contact a pre-education advisor (621-7865) in the College of Education at The University of Arizona for information about admission and education course work. Students pursuing a major in art education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

  1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

  1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
    or
  2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 220 or 221 and 222) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. (Refer to the individuals, societies and institutions requirement.)
