Bachelor of Arts with a major in History

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information.

Please note: Thirty-three units of history course work, of which 18 units must be upper-division, are required for this major. If a student takes more than nine units of history courses to fulfill the general education study area requirements, those units beyond nine count toward the history major.

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

SECOND LANGUAGE--16 units
This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Credit by Examination in The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at the Maricopa County Community Colleges includes the following. For Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese or Sign Language sequences, a placement test may be required to appropriately place students or to satisfy fourth semester proficiency.
