1996-97 UA Navajo transfer guide

Bachelor of Music with a major in Composition, Jazz Studies or Performance
Performance specialization available in Guitar, Harp, Keyboard, String, Voice, Wind or Percussion

For students attending classes at Navajo Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are required. All transfer music majors (except piano and organ performance majors) must audition for placement in class or group piano instruction. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the assistant director of the School of Music (621-1454) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent music courses are not available at Navajo Community College for the major in Composition, Jazz Studies or Performance. Students should complete requirements in the general education skills and proficiencies, and study areas to best prepare for transfer and progress toward this degree.

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units from one of the options:

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--6 units

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

ARTS--6 units (other than music); only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS--9 units (16 units for voice performance majors)
