Bachelor of Arts in Education with a major in Elementary Education
For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the Office of Student and Career Services in the College of Education (Education Building, Room 247) for additional information (621-7865). Elementary education majors must choose a subject matter concentration in consultation with an academic advisor in the College of Education.
Please note: A transfer guide may list more than 72 units of course work. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection.
Formal admission to the College of Education is required of all undergraduate students who wish to pursue a major or earn a teaching certificate in the College of Education. Admission to the College of Education is limited. The deadlines for admission are the second Friday in September for any Spring term and the second Friday in February for any Fall term. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

MAT 167, Introductory Statistics, is not recommended by the College of Education for prospective elementary education majors.
SECOND LANGUAGE--16 units
This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Credit by Examination in The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:
Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
orSatisfactorily complete course work (POS 110 and 130 or POS 220) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. (Refer to the individuals, societies and institutions requirement.)
PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. While this course is nontransferable, it does contribute to the grade point average for admission to the University. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
