Bachelor of Music with a
major in Music Education
(Voice or Instrumental)
For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are required. All transfer music majors (except piano and organ performance majors) must audition for placement in class or group piano instruction. Refer to The University of Arizona 1995-97 General Catalog or contact the assistant director of the School of Music (621-5929) for additional information.
Please note: A transfer guide may list more than 72 units of course work. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection.

In addition to the music courses listed above, students should complete eight units of individual instruction in their major instrument or voice and four units in a conducted ensemble. Instrumental music education majors should also complete one unit of course work in a coached ensemble.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Consult a music education advisor
at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the
required course work. Students pursuing a major in music
education must meet the following special requirements before
being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:
- Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
- Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
- Minimum grade-point average of 2.80 in all music courses other than ensembles.
- Completion of the Music Education Advisory Review process.
- Basic skills testing (formerly the PPST) has been suspended since spring 1994; however, for future admissions, the faculty in the College of Education are looking at various forms of basic skills assessment.
As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:
- Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on United States and Arizona constitutions;
or- Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 110 and 130 or POS 112) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. (Refer to the individuals, societies and institutions requirement.)
PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. While this course is nontransferable, it does contribute to the grade point average for admission to the University. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
