Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Musical Theatre

For students attending classes at Arizona Western College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. An audition is required the semester prior to enrollment in the Theatre Arts Department at The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

Musical theatre majors must complete a minimum of eight units of course work in private voice instruction. In addition, course work in conducted ensembles or musical productions is required.

THEATRE ARTS--18 units

• THE 101 or 102, 130, 171, 172,

MUSIC--6 units

• MUS 121, 122

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

• ENG 101, 102

MATHEMATICS--3 units

• MAT 151

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

• MAT 172, 187, 212, 221

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

• BDC 100, 120, 140
• SPE 215

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6-9 units from one of the following options:

• Option 1 -- HIS 101, 102, 103
• Option 2 -- any combination of ARH 241, 242; PHI 101, 105
