Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at Central Arizona College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 18 units of theatre arts course work for this major must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona.

THEATRE ARTS--15 units

• THE 101, 102, 103, 105, 106

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

• ENG 101, 102

MATHEMATICS--3 units

• MAT 150, 151, 152

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

• MAT 171, 187, 211

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

• SPE 100, 201

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6-9 units from one of the options

• Option 1 -- HIS 103, 104
• Option 2 -- any combination ART 207, 208; MHL 100; PHI 101, 105

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

• Biology -- BIO - any course
• Chemistry -- CHM - any course
• Geology -- GLG - any course
• Physics -- PHY - any course
• Science -- SCI - 100, 101

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--6 units

• History -- HIS 101 or 102
• Psychology -- PSY 101

Select an additional three units of course work from the following:

• Anthropology -- ASB 102; ARH 200, 201, 202, 210
• Economics -- ECN - any course
• Geography -- GEO 101
• History -- HIS 105, 107, 201
• Philosophy -- PHI 112
• Political Science -- POS 102, 104
• Psychology -- PSY - any course except 101
• Sociology -- SOC - any course

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

• HIS 107 or PHI 112

ARTS--3-6 units (other than theatre arts). Only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

• ART - any course
• MHL - any course
• MTC - any course
• MUP - any course

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Consult a theater arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

1. Completion of 56 semester units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
3. Completion of the theatre arts core curriculum.
4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination of United States and Arizona constitutions
   or
2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 101 and POS 103) on the United States and Arizona constitutions.
