College of Pharmacy, Pre-Pharmacy Curriculum

For students attending classes at Cochise College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Admission into the professional phase of the pharmacy program is very competitive and requires the completion of the pre-pharmacy curriculum. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied toward a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. ** College algebra is a prerequisite.

*** The social science electives may be completed by taking two transferrable courses in any of the following departments at Cochise College: Anthropology (ANT), Communication (COM), History (HIS), Political Science (POS), Psychology (PSY) or Sociology (SOC).

**** This course is not available at Cochise College. Analytical (quantitative) chemistry must be completed at another college or university the by the end of the spring semester prior to enrollment in the College of Pharmacy.

***** Select one transferrable course from in English literature (ENG) or Spanish literature (SPA) at Cochise College.

ADMISSION INFORMATION REGARDING THE COLLEGE OF PHARMACY

Admission into the College of Pharmacy at The University of Arizona is selective and competitive. Applicants for admission to the College of Pharmacy must first meet the general admission requirements to The University of Arizona. General admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the professional phase of the pharmacy program. Although the College of Pharmacy does admit out-of-state residents, preference is given to Arizona residents. Students are only admitted into the College of Pharmacy once each year for the fall semester. All science prerequisites must be completed the spring semester prior to being admitted. Students are highly encouraged to contact the College of Pharmacy for advising assistance and to ensure timely completion of the pre-pharmacy course requirements.

Application for admission to the College of Pharmacy should be initiated a year before the anticipated admission date. The deadline for application is mid-January of the year for which admission is sought. Requirements for application to the College of Pharmacy include:

  1. Application for admission to The University of Arizona.
  2. Official transcripts of course work completed at all post-secondary institutions previously attended. To be official, transcripts must be sent directly from the previous institution to The University of Arizona, College of Pharmacy.
  3. A list of pre-pharmacy courses remaining to be completed and the plan for completion.
  4. A student profile questionnaire (the application) and essay.
  5. Three letters of recommendation.
  6. A personal interview, if selected.
  7. The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT). Call 1-800-622-3231 for more information.

All necessary forms and applications may be obtained from the College of Pharmacy. All completed applications, forms and supplemental materials should be sent directly to the College of Pharmacy to ensure timeliness of admission consideration.
