Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at Eastern Arizona College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 18 units of theatre arts courses for this major must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona.

THEATRE ARTS--27 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

• MAT 154

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

• MAT 160, 171, 210, 220, 231, 245

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

• SPC 100, 150, 201, 220

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units

• ART 133, 134

• MUS 101
• PHI 101

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

• Biology -- BIO - any course
• Chemistry -- CHM - any course
• Geology -- GLG - any course

ARTS--6 units (other than theatre arts); only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION--15 units
Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
3. Completion of the theatre arts core curriculum
4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on United States and Arizona constitutions;
   or
2. Satisfactorily complete course work POS 220 or POS 110 and POS 221 on the United States and Arizona constitutions.
