Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 18 units of theatre arts courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for the major in Theatre Arts Education.

THEATRE--21 units

• THE 220
• THP 112, 115, 201, 212, 213, 216

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

• ENG 101 or 107
• ENG 102 or 108

MATHEMATICS--3 units

• MAT 150 or 151 or 152

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

• MAT 172, 182, 187, 212, 220, 221, 225, 227, 230, 231, 241

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

• COM 125, 222, 225, 241, 243, 271, 281
• THP 241

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6-9 units from one of the options below:

• Option 1 -- HIS 100, 101, 102
• Option 2 -- HUM 103, 104, 108
• Option 3 -- any combination: ART 101, 102; MHL 141, 142; PHI 101 or 102, 105

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION--15 units
Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
3. Completion of the theatre arts core curriculum.
4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
   or
2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 220 or POS 221 and 222) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. (Refer to the individuals, societies and institutions requirement.)
