Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

BIOLOGY--8 units

MATHEMATICS--10-12 units

Eight units of laboratory science courses are required in addition to the biology courses listed above. Refer to the biological and physical sciences study area for a listing of options.

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units
This requirement may be fulfilled by completing the mathematics course work listed under the major requirements.

SECOND LANGUAGE--16 units
This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to
Examination Policies in The University of Arizona On-line Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at the Maricopa County Community Colleges includes the following. For Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese or Sign Language sequences, a placement test may be required to appropriately place students or to satisfy fourth semester proficiency.

Note: If students select Arabic, Chinese, Greek or Portuguese, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to the UA.

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
One of the courses (identified with an * [asterisk] preceding the course number) must focus on gender, class, race or ethnicity.

TRADITIONS AND CULTURES--9 units total from List 1 and List 2

LIST 1 (Non-Western Traditions and Cultures) - complete one course from the following options:

LIST 2 (Western Traditions and Cultures) - complete a two-course sequence from the following options:

BIOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES--8 units
This requirement is to be satisfied by completing courses which include laboratory work. Students are strongly encouraged to take either courses in the biological sciences or courses in the physical sciences when completing this requirement.

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units from at least two areas

ARTS--3 units

LITERATURE--3 units
