Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at Mohave Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 18 units of theatre arts courses for this major must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona.

THEATRE ARTS--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

• MAT 151

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

• MAT 211, 221, 231, 241, 260

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

• ENG 151, 161

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6-9 units

• Option 1 -- HIS 135, 136
• Option 2 -- HUM 241, 242, 243 or 244
• Option 3 -- any combination - ART 130, 230; PHI 101, 151

SCIENCE--6 units (with or without laboratory)

• Astronomy -- AST 101
• Biology -- BIO - any course
• Chemistry -- CHM - any course
• Geology -- GLG 101, 102
• Physics -- PHY 111, 112

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units

• History -- HIS 131 or 132
• Psychology -- PSY 101

Select three units of course work from the following options:

• Administration of Justice -- AJS 135, 137, 235, 237, 239, 248, 261
• Anthropology -- ANT - any course
• History -- HIS 100, 133, 134, 137, 231, 232, 234, 240
• Philosophy -- PHI 205
• Political Science -- POL 140, 230
• Psychology -- PSY - any course except 101
• Sociology -- SOC - any course

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

• ANT 201 or HIS 234 or HIS 240

ARTS--3-6 units (other than art); only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

• MUS - any course

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION--15 units
Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
3. Completion of the theatre arts core curriculum.
4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
   or
2. Satisfactorily complete course work POL 100 and POL 120 on the United States and Arizona constitutions.
