Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Special Education and Rehabilitation
For students attending classes at Diné College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the Office of Student and Career Services in the College of Education (Education Bldg., Rm. 247) for additional information (621-7865).
Formal admission to the College of Education is required of all undergraduate students who wish to pursue a major in the College of Education. Admission to the College of Education is competitive. The deadlines for admission are the second Friday in September for any Spring term and the second Friday in February for any Fall term. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES
ENGLISH--6 units
- ENG 101, 102
MATHEMATICS--3 units
- MTH 110
College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:
- MTH 111, 118, 191, 192, 220, 221
SECOND LANGUAGE--16 units
This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The University of Arizona On-line Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Completion of one of the following options at Diné College will fulfill this requirement.
- Option 1 -- NAV 101, 102, 201, 202
- Option 2 -- NAV 211, 212
GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
TRADITIONS AND CULTURES--9 units from List 1 and List 2
LIST 1 (Non-Western Traditions and Cultures) - complete one course from the following options:

LIST 2 (Western Traditions and Cultures) - complete a two-course sequence from the following options:

- Option 2 -- HST 101 or 102 and select one course from HST 101, 102, 135, 136
BIOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES--8 units
The special education and rehabilitation program in the College of Education requires BIO 201 and BIO 202.INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units from at least two areas. One of the courses (identified with an * [asterisk] preceding the course number) must focus on gender, class, race or ethnicity.
