Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Resources with a major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education

For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. The School of Family and Consumer Resources offers undergraduate majors in family studies, family and consumer sciences education with secondary education and family life education tracks, and retailing and consumer studies. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the School of Family and Consumer Resources (621-1075) for additional information.

Please note: A transfer guide may list more than 72 units of course work. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

The following courses are available at Pima Community College for application to the selected track:

BASIC SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

MATHEMATICS--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
Select course work from five of the following six study areas. When courses are identified under a study area as required by one of the majors, students must complete that study area as one of the five areas. A minimum of 32 units is required in the five study areas selected.

1. WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6-9 units

2. BIOLOGICAL AND LIFE SCIENCES--8 units, one lab required

and select remaining units from:

3. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES--8 units

4. INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--6-9 units

5. NON-WESTERN CIVILIZATIONS--3 units, other culture

6. ARTS, LITERATURE AND LANGUAGE--6 units

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
