Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Art Education

For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

Please note: A transfer guide may list more than 72 units of course work. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 12 units of art courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for the major in Art Education.

ART--48 units

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--9 units

* Students at Pima Community College may take POS 110 and 130 or POS 220 to complete this requirement through course work.

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Contact a pre-education advisor (621-7865) in the College of Education at The University of Arizona for information about admission and education course work. Students pursuing a major in art education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

  1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 units of college course work.
  3. Basic skills testing (formerly the PPST) has been suspended since spring 1994; however, for future admissions, the faculty in the College of Education are looking at various forms of basic skills assessment.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

  1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on United States and Arizona constitutions;
    or
  2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 110 and 130 or POS 112) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. (Refer to the individuals, societies and institutions requirement on the previous page.)

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
