Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Dance

For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The University of Arizona On-line Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.

Please note: A transfer guide may list more than 72 units of course work. A maximum of 72 units of community college credit may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent courses are not available at Pima Community College for the major in Dance. Students should complete requirements in the skills and proficiencies and general education study areas to best prepare for transfer and progress toward this degree.

A minimum of 42 units of dance courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for this major. Dance majors must audition for acceptance in the program and placement in dance technique courses.

GENERAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

ENGLISH--6 units

MATHEMATICS--3 units

College algebra is the minimum mathematics requirement. One of the following higher level mathematics courses may be substituted:

ORAL COMMUNICATION--3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION STUDY AREAS
A course may not be used to fulfill requirements in more than one study area.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION--6 units

SCIENCE--3 units (with or without laboratory)

INDIVIDUALS, SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTIONS--6 units

NON-WESTERN AND MINORITY STUDIES--3 units

ARTS--6 units (other than dance)
Only three units of performance or production course work may be applied to this requirement.

DEPARTMENTAL GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

MUSIC--6 units

THEATRE ARTS--3 units

HUMANITIES--3 units

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
