Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The UA Desert Lynx On-line Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information. SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the second semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA Desert Lynx On-line Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at the Maricopa County Community Colleges includes the following. For Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese or Sign Language sequences, a placement test may be required to appropriately place students or to satisfy fourth semester proficiency.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- A minimum of 18 credits of theatre arts courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for the major in Theatre Arts Education.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION--15 credits. Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

  1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 credits of college course work.
  3. Completion of the theatre arts core curriculum.
  4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

  1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
    or
  2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 220 or POS 221 and 222) on the United States and Arizona constitutions. (Refer to the individuals, societies and institutions requirement.)
