Bachelor of Arts with a major in Linguistics

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The UA Desert Lynx On-line Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information. Freshman Composition--6 credits
Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences--6-9 credits
Other Requirement Options--0-6 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA Desert Lynx On-line Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. This requirement may be met by completing the language course work listed under major requirements.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Equivalent courses are not available at the Maricopa County Community Colleges for the major in Linguistics. Students should complete requirements in the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC-A) to best prepare for transfer and progress toward this degree. Work in an uncommonly taught language (e.g., Greek, Latin, Russian, Persian or any non-Indo-European language; especially work in American Indian Languages) is encouraged.
