1998-99 UA Pima Community College transfer guide

Bachelor of Music with a major in Composition, Jazz Studies or Performance
(Performance specialization available in Guitar, Harp, Keyboard, String, Voice, Wind and Percussion)

For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are required. All transfer Music majors (except Piano and Organ Performance majors) must audition for placement in class or group piano instruction. Refer to The UA Desert Lynx On-line Catalog or contact the assistant director of the School of Music (621-5929) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection. SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA Desert Lynx On-line Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Pima Community College includes the following:

Note: If students select Latin or Portuguese, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Students entering any of the degree programs in music must, at the very minimum, have instrumental or vocal performance skills at the MUSI181 level. This level requires at least two years of intensive private instruction and/or four years of ensemble participation. Some music degrees require a higher entrance level. A student's performance level is determined by audition at the beginning of his/her first semester of enrollment.

* These courses are not required for majors in performance with a keyboard specialization.
** These courses are not required for majors in performance with keyboard or voice specialization.
*** Course may be used as a minor elective or as major credit for the composition major.

In addition to the music courses listed above, students should complete individual instruction course work in their major instrument or voice. Course work in conducted ensembles is also required.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC REQUIREMENTS -- 9 credits (16 credits are required for voice performance majors). Consult an academic advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work; refer to the listing of Undergraduate Majors and Contact Information.

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
