Bachelor of Arts with a major in Sociology

For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection. Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Pima Community College includes the following:

  • GER 110, 111, 210, 211
  • ITA 110, 111, 210, 211
  • JPN 110, 111, 210, 211
  • LAT 110, 111
  • RUS 110, 111, 210, 211
  • SLG 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SPA 110, 111, 201 or 210, 202 or 211

Note: If students select Latin, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Thirty-six credits of sociology course work, of which 21 credits must be upper-division, are required for the major in Sociology.

  • SOC 103, 110, 120*, 127*, 166, 201*, 203, 204*

Mathematics note: Students are required to complete College Algebra as a prerequisite for core course SOC 274 at the UA.

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE HDE 105, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES!" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in HDE 105.
