Designing the major requires that the student (1) construct the program of study with the aid of an academic advisor from the Office of Academic Services and the three departmental advisors; (2) prepare a written proposal; and (3) have the final proposal and program accepted by the University College.

Requirements include:

  1. All general education requirements.
  2. Twenty-one credits within each of three subject areas (disciplines) selected; at least 12 credits in each area must be upper-division course work completed in residence at The University of Arizona.
  3. Forty-two credits of upper-division course work.
  4. Ninety credits of liberal arts courses through the Colleges of Science, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences or accepted in transfer from other institutions.
  5. A 2.0 GPA in each subject area and cumulatively.
