UA Arizona Western College Transfer Guide for 2000-01

Bachelor of Arts with a major in Music

For students attending classes at Arizona Western College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are required. All transfer Music majors (except Piano and Organ Performance majors) must audition for placement in class or group piano instruction. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the assistant director of the School of Music (621-1454) for additional information. Freshman Composition--6 credits
Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits

Mathematics--3 credits. MAT 142 or above required.

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Arizona Western College includes the following:

  • FRE 101, 102, 201, 202
  • GER 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SPA 101, 102, 201, 202

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Students entering any of the degree programs in music must, at the very minimum, have instrumental or vocal performance skills at the MUSI181 level. This level requires at least two years of intensive private instruction and/or four years of ensemble participation. Some music degrees require a higher entrance level. A student's performance level is determined by audition at the beginning of his/her first semester of enrollment.

  • MUS 111 and 112 (for use as elective credit), 121 and 122, 123 and 125, 191 and 192, 291 and 292

In addition to the music courses listed above, students should complete four credits of individual instruction in their major instrument or voice and two credits of conducted ensemble.
