| For students attending classes at Mohave Community College
and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is
recommended. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be
applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer
to The UA General Catalog or contact the
Office of Student Services in
the College of Education (Education Bldg., Rm.

Students interested in Special Education and Rehabilitation choose one of three concentration in the major: The General Rehabilitation option prepares the student for entry-level positions in group homes, school transition programs, mental health facilities, agencies servicing the physically disabled, corrections facilities, social service agencies, and other settings. The Deaf Studies concentration prepares the student to work within the deaf community in roles such as rehabilitation technician, job coach, interpreter, and staff in residential schools and service agencies. Advanced competency in American Sign Language is required for the program. The Special Education focus provides the student with a broad introduction to special education. While not leading to teacher certification at the bachelor's level, this program prepares students for entry-level special education careers (teaching assistant, house parent, etc.), as well as preparation for master's level course work in special education. NOTE: The University of Arizona is currently offering a pilot program in cross-categorical special education teaching. Students interested in this pilot program should contact the Office of Student Services for further information. Formal admission to the College of Education is required of all undergraduate students who wish to pursue a major in the College of Education. Admission to the College of Education is competitive. The deadlines for admission are the second Friday in September for any Spring term and the second Friday in February for any Fall term. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the second semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated.
