For students attending classes at Northland Pioneer
College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work
is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are
required. All transfer music majors (except piano and organ performance majors) must
audition for placement in class or group instruction. A maximum of 64 credits of
community college course work may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The
University of Arizona. Refer to The UA

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Note: If students select French, German or Navajo, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Students entering any of the degree programs in music must, at the very minimum, have instrumental or vocal performance skills at the MUSI181 level. This level requires at least two years of intensive private instruction and/or four years of ensemble participation. Some music degrees require a higher entrance level. A student's performance level is determined by audition at the beginning of his/her first semester of enrollment. In addition to the music courses listed below, students should complete individual instruction course work in their major instrument or voice. Course work in conducted ensembles is also required.
