UA/Coconino Community College transfer guide 2001-02

Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Theatre Arts Education

For students attending classes at Coconino Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information.  A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona.  If you will not be completing this transfer guide, see the "Acceptance of Transfer Course Work to meet UA General Education Requirements."

ARIZONA GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM (AGEC-A)--35 credits (course lists)
Freshman Composition--6 credits
Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3-5 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences--6-9 credits
General Education Options--0-6 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the second semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Coconino Community College includes the following:

  • FRE 101, 102
  • NAV 101, 102
  • SLG 101, 102
  • SPA 101, 102

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- A minimum of 18 credits of drama courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for this major.

Equivalent courses are not available at Coconino Community College for the major in Theatre Arts Education. Students should complete requirements in the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC-A) to best prepare for transfer and progress toward this degree.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION -- Consult a theatre arts education advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work. Students pursuing a major in theatre arts education must meet the following special requirements before being admitted to the Teacher Education Program:

  1. Completion of 56 units of credit applicable to a baccalaureate degree.
  2. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.50 (4.0 scale) or higher on the most current 56 credits of college course work.
  3. Completion of the theatre arts core curriculum.
  4. A personal interview.

As part of the teacher certification process, the State of Arizona requires all teachers to:

  1. Satisfactorily complete the Arizona examination on the United States and Arizona constitutions;
    or
  2. Satisfactorily complete course work (POS 221 and POS 222 or POS 220) on the United States and Arizona constitutions.
