For students attending classes at Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona.   If you will not be completing this transfer guide, see the "Acceptance of Transfer Course Work to meet UA General Education Requirements."

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. For Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese or Sign Language sequences, a placement test may be required to appropriately place students or to satisfy fourth semester proficiency.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Photography, graphic design and illustration majors require portfolio review and acceptance by the Portfolio Committee at The University of Arizona. Contact an art faculty advisor at your Maricopa County Community College campus for assistance in portfolio preparation and presentation. A minimum of 18 credits of art courses must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for the major in Studio Art.

ART DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS -- Consult an academic advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work; refer to the listing of Undergraduate Majors and Contact Information.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, which offers specialization in Two-Dimensional, Three-Dimensional, Visual Communication, Photography, New Genre or Combined Media and the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education are available by portfolio only through the University of Arizona Art Department.  Portfolio Reviews are held in the Spring Semester.  To be eligible for portfolio review students must:

  1. Have successfully completed, or be registered for courses that would complete the 24 units of Foundation and Distribution requirements.
  2. Have a GPA of 3.0 in their Studio, Art History and Art Education coursework.
  3. Submit a one-page artist statement addressing ideas and future goals for their work (Studio Majors); or submit a one-page paper addressing ideas and goals as an art educator (Art Education Majors).
  4. Submit a portfolio of 10-15 slides of their work (Studio Majors); or submit a portfolio of 10-15 slides of their work and a research paper (Art Education Majors).
  5. Submit a BFA Candidacy Review form, available through the Art Department.
