MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- The Fine Arts Studies degree is a special major that allows students to combine three disciplines (two of which must be in the College of Fine Arts) into a coherent and intellectually challenging program of academic concentration that is not otherwise available through the college’s departmentally based majors and minors. Designing the major requires that the student (1) construct a program of study with the aid of an academic advisor from the Office of The Dean of the College of Fine Arts and the three departmental advisors; (2) prepare a written proposal; and (3) have the final proposal and program accepted by the Sr. Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts.

Requirements include:

  1. All general education requirements.
  2. Twenty-four credits within each of three subject areas (disciplines) selected; at least 12 credits in each area must be upper-division course work completed in residence at The University of Arizona.
  3. Forty-two credits of upper-division course work.
  4. A minimum of 125 credits with at least 30 taken in residence at the University of Arizona are required for the completion of this degree.
  5. A minimum 2.0 GPA in each subject area and cumulatively. Students must meet Advanced Standing Requirements if one of the subject areas is either Media Arts or another UA department with Advanced Standing prerequisites.
