UA/Maricopa Community Colleges transfer guides for 2001-02

Bachelor of Arts with a major in Linguistics

For students attending classes at the Maricopa County Community Colleges and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information. Freshman Composition--6 credits
Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences--6-9 credits
Other Requirement Options--0-6 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. This requirement may be met by completing the language course work listed under major requirements.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Equivalent courses are not available at the Maricopa County Community Colleges for the major in Linguistics. Students should complete requirements in the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC-A) to best prepare for transfer and progress toward this degree. Work in an uncommonly taught language (e.g., Greek, Latin, Russian, Persian or any non-Indo-European language; especially work in American Indian Languages) is encouraged.
