For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection. If you will not be completing this transfer guide, see the "Acceptance of Transfer Course Work to meet UA General Education Requirements."

ARIZONA GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM (AGEC)--35 credits (course lists).  Complete the AGEC that is appropriate for the desired Mathematics major, either AGEC-A or AGEC-S.  NOTE: Second Language and Major Requirement courses may fulfill AGEC requirements, see your Pima Community College advisor.
Freshman Composition--6 credits
Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences--6-9 credits
Other Requirement Options--0-6 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Pima Community College includes the following:

  • GER 101, 102, 201, 202
  • ITA 101, 102, 201, 202
  • JPN 101, 102, 201, 202
  • LAT 110, 111
  • RUS 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SLG 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SPA 101, 102, 201, 202

Note: If students select Latin, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
Students may pursue either a Bachelor of Science degree or a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics.  The AGEC-S is required for the B.S. degree.  Either the AGEC-A or the AGEC-S is acceptable for the B.A. degree.

For the B.S. degree in mathematics, students must complete a sequence of calculus-based physics courses or six units of course work outside of math that requires at least first semester calculus as a prerequisite.  If a sequence of physics courses is used to satisfy this requirement, those courses will also satisfy the General Education requirement in the Natural Sciences.

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE STU 210, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in STU 210.
