For students attending classes at Northland Pioneer College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the College of Fine Arts (621-1301) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona.   If you will not be completing this transfer guide, see the "Acceptance of Transfer Course Work to meet UA General Education Requirements."

ARIZONA GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM (AGEC-A)--35 credits (course lists)
Freshman Composition--6 credits
Arts and Humanities--9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences--9 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Northland Pioneer College includes the following:

  • FRE 101, 102
  • GER 101, 102
  • LAN 201, 202
  • SPA 101, 102, 201, 202

Note: If students select French, German or Navajo, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Graphic Design and Illustration majors require portfolio review and acceptance by the Portfolio Committee at The University of Arizona. Contact an art faculty advisor at Northland Pioneer College for assistance in portfolio preparation and presentation. A minimum of 18 credits of art course work must be completed in residence at The University of Arizona for the major in Studio Art.

SCHOOL OF ART REQUIREMENTS -- Consult an academic advisor at The University of Arizona for assistance in selecting the required course work; refer to the listing of Undergraduate Majors and Contact Information.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, which offers specialization in Two-Dimensional, Three-Dimensional, Visual Communication, Photography or Combined Media and the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education are available by portfolio only through the University of Arizona School of Art.  To be eligible students must:

  1. Have successfully completed foundations (courses in common)
  2. Have completed or be registered for 24 units in Art, Art History or Art Education
  3. Have at least a GPA of 3.0 in Studio, Art History, and Art Education coursework.
  4. Apply through the School Art Advising Center after completing University of Arizona admissions.
