For students attending classes at Northland Pioneer College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the Office of Academic Services (621-3336) for additional information. ARIZONA GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM (AGEC)--35 credits (course lists). Complete the AGEC that is appropriate for the desired Mathematics major, either AGEC-A or AGEC-S.
Freshman Composition--6 credits
Arts and Humanities--9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3 credits
Social and Behavioral Sciences--9 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Northland Pioneer College includes the following:

  • FRE 101, 102
  • GER 101, 102
  • LAN 201, 202
  • SPA 101, 102, 201, 202

Note: If students select French, German or Navajo, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
Students may pursue either a Bachelor of Science degree or a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics.  The AGEC-S is required for the B.S. degree.  Either the AGEC-A or the AGEC-S is acceptable for the B.A. degree.

For the B.S. degree in mathematics, students must complete a sequence of calculus-based physics courses or six units of course work outside of math that requires at least first semester calculus as a prerequisite.  If a sequence of physics courses is used to satisfy this requirement, those courses will also satisfy the General Education requirement in the Natural Sciences.
