UA Pima Community College Transfer Guide 2003-04

Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts

For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the Department of Media Arts (621-7352) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelor’s degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection. If you will not be completing this transfer guide, see the "Acceptance of Transfer Course Work to meet UA General Education Requirements."

All students, including transfer students, are required to have Advanced Standing for enrollment in all 300- or 400-level Department of Media Arts courses. Requirements for students to be admitted to Advanced Standing in M AR at The University of Arizona are:

  1. Completion of at least 56 credits.
  2. A minimum overall GPA of 2.50 based on completion of at least 12 credits at The University of Arizona.
  3. Completion of M AR core courses [200, 201, 203, and 210].
  4. Completion of selected general education requirements to include: ENGL 101 or 103h, ENGL 102 or 104h, MATH 105 or 110 higher, four credits of second language, three credits of traditions and cultures, four credits of science with lab and three credits of individuals, societies and institutions. Where applicable, general education courses are to be Booklink-approved.

Transfer students who would otherwise qualify for Media Arts Advanced Standing except that they do not meet the requirement of having taken a minimum of 12 regularly graded credits at The University of Arizona will be given provisional permission to enroll in upper-division Media Arts courses until they have completed this minimum. Thereafter, they must meet all of the regular provisions of the Media Arts Advanced Standing Policy.

NOTE: Second Language and Major Requirement courses may fulfill AGEC requirements, see your Pima Community College advisor.
Freshman Composition--6 credits
Humanities and Fine Arts--6-9 credits
Biological and Physical Sciences--8 credits
Mathematics--3 credits. MAT 142 or above required.
Social and Behavioral Sciences--6-9 credits
Other Requirement Options--0-6 credits

SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Course work available at Pima Community College includes the following:

  • FRE 101, 102, 201, 202
  • GER 101, 102, 201, 202
  • GRK 101, 102, 201, 202
  • ITA 101, 102, 201, 202
  • JPN 101, 102, 201, 202
  • LAT 101, 102, 201, 202
  • POR 101, 102
  • RUS 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SLG 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SPA 101, 102, 201, 202 or 203

Note: If students select Portuguese, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- The following Pima Community College courses transfer as M AR credit: DAR 124, 125*, 175, 176, 177, 215, 225, 275, 276, 277, 281, 285.

Of the minimum of 35 credits required for the M AR BA degree, at least 18 must be in residence at The University of Arizona and at least 18 credits must be upper-division [300-499].

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE STU 210, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing. This course transfers to the UA as elective credit. See a P.C.C. counselor/advisor about enrolling in STU 210.
