Bachelor of Arts with a major in Music For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Entrance examinations in musicianship and the major performance area are required. All transfer Music majors (except Piano and Organ Performance majors) must audition for placement in class or group piano instruction. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the assistant director of the School of Music (621-5929) for additional information. A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection. SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the fourth semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. Note: If students select Portuguese, the intermediate level of study may be completed upon transfer to The University of Arizona. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS -- Students entering any of the degree programs in Music must, at the very minimum, have instrumental or vocal performance skills at the MUSI181 level. This level requires at least two years of intensive private instruction and/or four years of ensemble participation. Some music degrees require a higher entrance level. A student's performance level is determined by audition at the beginning of his/her first semester of enrollment. Music--29 credits
In addition to the music courses listed above, students should complete four credits of individual instruction in their major instrument or voice and two credits of a conducted ensemble. * Common courses PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE STU 210, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing.
