in Education with a major in For students attending classes at Pima Community College and preparing to transfer to The University of Arizona, the following course work is recommended. Refer to The UA General Catalog or contact the Office of Student Services in the College of Education (Education Building, Room 247) for additional information (621-7865). A maximum of 64 credits of community college course work may be applied to a bachelors degree program at The University of Arizona. Consult your advisor regarding course selection. If you will not be completing this transfer guide, see the "Acceptance of Transfer Course Work to meet UA General Education Requirements." Students interested in Special Education and Rehabilitation choose one of two concentrations in the major: The General Rehabilitation option prepares the student for entry-level positions in group homes, school transition programs, mental health facilities, agencies serving the physically disabled, corrections facilities, social service agencies, and other settings. The Deaf Studies concentration prepares the student to work within the deaf community in roles such as rehabilitation technician, job coach, interpreter, and staff in residential schools and service agencies. Advanced competency in American Sign Language is required for the program. The Special Education focus prepares students to teach children with mild to moderate mental retardation, emotional disability, specific learning disabilities, orthopedic and other health impairments in a K-12 classroom setting. Formal admission to the College of Education is required of all undergraduate students who wish to pursue a major in the College of Education. Admission to the College of Education is selective. The deadlines for admission are the second Friday in September for any Spring term and the second Friday in February for any Fall term. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
SECOND LANGUAGE -- This requirement may be met by demonstrating proficiency in a single second language at the second semester level. Refer to Examination Policies in The UA General Catalog for additional information on ways in which proficiency may be demonstrated. PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE STU 210, "TRANSFER STRATEGIES" This course offers UA campus visits; meetings with UA staff members who represent the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, The Center for Transfer Students and other University resources; and consultation for evaluating transfer timing.
